SAN DIEGO -- Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron Fourteen (VFA-14), Cmdr. Gavin Duff, has today relieved the squadron's Command Master Chief (CMC), Master Chief Petty Officer Jeff Harsh, of his duties as a result of the CMC's failure to meet expected performance standards.
Master Chief Harsh has been temporarily assigned to the staff of Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Pacific (CSFWP), NAS Lemoore, Calif.
Senior Chief Petty Officer Clint Donham will temporarily fulfill VFA-14's command master chief duties until a permanent replacement can be assigned.
Command Master Chiefs are the senior enlisted leaders of a Navy command and have a great deal of responsibility for their unit's assigned Sailors and their mission. Command Master Chiefs strengthen the chain of command by keeping the Commanding Officer aware of existing or potential issues of concern as well as procedures and practices which affect the mission, readiness, welfare and morale of the Sailors in the command.
