It is important to understand these military pay requirements and variables to make certain that each service member is being correctly compensated. Basic Pay

Basic Military Pay or "base pay" is the standard amount of compensation for service members based on each individual pay grade.

Reserve & Guard Pay

The compensation for being in the Army or Air National Guard or in a Reserve unit is less than full-time pay since the commitment is only on weekends. Read about Guard and Reserve Pay.

Special Pay

Special Military Pay is compensation added to basic pay benefits and allowances that may include incentive pay based on specific career field or location.

Military Retirement Pay

Military retirement pay is one of the top three benefits of military service along with medical and other benefits. Also, all military retirements are protected from inflation by annual Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs), based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as measured by the Department of Labor. 

Military Veteran Pay
