10-yr-old Girl Used as Suicide Bomber by IS
A bomb exploded at a busy market in Nigeria, killing at least 19 people and injuring many. Authorities suspect it was a suicide bombing by a young girl threatened by an Islamist militant group. The bomb blasted in Maiduguri, the capital of the northeastern state of Borno, on Saturday. A security guard says the explosion happened suddenly when another guard was about to search the girl aged around 10 years old as metal detectors had indicated she was carrying something. In Nigeria's northeast, the Islamist militant group Boko Haram has been using young women as suicide bombers since last year. In December, a 13-year-old girl who was arrested after a failed attempt at a suicide bombing told investigators that the militants threatened to kill her unless she carried out the task. Analysts say Boko Haram may also be behind the latest bombing, raising fears of more such attacks by the group.
