Store Clerk Barely Escapes Death

A pistol held to the head of a store clerk begging for mercy failed to fire last month when a robber pulled the trigger, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said today. The clerk was working alone at 2:45 a.m. Dec. 19 when a pair of armed robbers held up a Kangaroo Express store at 7661 Magnolia Homes Road, a report states. Demanding the clerk open the store's safe, the robbers began pistol whipping the man when he told them that the manager was the only person who knew the combination. While one of the robbers held a small semi-automatic pistol to the clerk's head, the taller of the robbers counted to three several times before he pulled the trigger, the report states. "Fortunately, it did not fire," the report states. The clerk, who suffered a small cut on his head, was treated by Fire Rescue paramedics and declined hospital treatment.
