Idaho Police Shooting Ruled Justified
Coeur d'Alene, ID - A September 2012 Coeur d'Alene police officer-involved fatal shooting was justified, according to documents released today by Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh. In a letter to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, McHugh said that he reviewed the investigative materials surrounding the shooting death of Christian Nicholas Buquet, 19, who also used the name Christian Mallon. Prior to the shooting, Mallon shot an acquaintance and then led police on a 5-mile pursuit during which, according to McHugh, the man shot at three bystanders as well as police officers. The incident began near 12th Street and Lakeside Avenue in Coeur d'Alene. As seen in an officer's body camera video released by the sheriff's office, Mallon was fatally shot near Higgens Point after an exchange of gunfire with four officers. The Press is developing a complete report on the investigative findings and McHugh's decision.
