It was a solemn day of recognition and remembrance at Fort Hood Friday morning. Victims of the 2009 shooting received one of the military's highest honors, the Purple Heart. The medals were given out during a ceremony on post. It came five years after former Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan opened fire, killing 13 people and wounding more than 30. The attack was at first classified as workplace violence, but survivors and the families of the victims waged an intense campaign to get it designated as a terrorist attack.
