Coasties Help Rescue Father & Son

    A Coast Guard helicopter crew assisted the South Kingstown Police Department and Rhode Island State Police in rescuing a 49-year-old male and his 12-year-old son after they we reported overdue Sunday evening. At approximately 11 a.m. Monday, Rhode Island State Police notified watchstanders at the Coast Guard First District that the missing father and son had been located in chest deep mud and heavy brush in the marshes near Worden Pond by a search party. The search party was unable to remove the individuals and requested Coast Guard assistance in the recovery. A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched and safely hoisted the individuals at approximately 1:30 p.m. They were then transported to West Kingston Middle School where they were met by awaiting EMS and were taken by ambulance to South County Hospital in Wakefield, R.I.
