We've run excerpts from two of Max Allan Collins' Quarry novels (Quarry's Ex and The Wrong Quarry). Quarry is a disillusioned Vietnam veteran who finds work as a hitman after he can't find work and readjust to life back home in Memphis after returning from service.

The books are pulpy, brutal and effective. Now they've inspired a Cinemax TV series that stars Logan Marshall-Green as Quarry. It's out this week on Digital HD from iTunes, Vudu, Amazon and all the usual digital retailers.

At first glance, the series looks period-perfect, using the time-stands-still quality of Memphis to perfect effect. We'll have a full review later but now we've got a deleted scene from the series.

Quarry and his wife Joni (Jodi Balfour) visit a store looking for an new mattress. They encounter an oily salesman, Quarry tries out a waterbed and they try (and fail) to get a military discount. Check out the scene below.
