Veterans Day Discounts Abound

Just two days to the Veteran's Day holiday, and the lists of special deals and promotions is pretty darn long! Please be sure to call ahead to verify each deal before driving somewhere, and be sure to have the ID that is required. Expect long lines as these deals are very popular, especially in military towns.

National Restaurants:

Outback Steakhouse is offering a free Bloomin' Onion and non-alcoholic beverage to veterans on November 11th, 2010. No other purchase necessary. Required documentation can include: U.S Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), DD form 214 Veterans Organization Card (i.e., American Legion and VFW), Photograph in Uniform, Wearing Uniform.

Golden Corral is doing its free Military Appreciation Dinner on Monday, November 15th, 2010. There is no documentation required to redeem this offer.

Applebee's Restaurant is offering a free meal, from a limited menu, for vets on November 11th. Their webpage lists the required documentation: a military ID, an LES, a membership card from a Veterans' organization, a photograph of you in uniform, actually wearing a uniform, a copy of your DD214, or a copy of a citation or commendation. It's nice that they list those so clearly. The free meal offer is available all day.

Free Doughnut at Krispy Kreme on Thursday 11/11! mmm, doughnuts... No identification necessary.

Hooters is offering a free meal from their Veteran's Day menu all day on Thursday, November 11th, 2010. A drink purchase is required, and you must have proof of service. Not all locations are participating but you can open a list of locations from the Veteran's Day Promotion page.

Chili's is offering a free entree from a selected menu to all veterans on Thursday, November 11th, 2010. The flyer states that proof of service must be provided, but doesn't say what type of proof will be accepted.

Uno's Chicago Grill and Bar (which for some reason I always think of as Pizzaria Uno) is also offering free meals on Veteran's Day 2010, including your choice of an entree or an individual pizza. There is a catch - you must purchase another meal or pizza, so this is more of a buy-one-get-one free deal. Not great for a group of buddies or a dual military couple, but maybe nice for a veteran and a friend.

I can't find actual documentation, but rumor has it that TGIF will be offering buy one, get one free meals with proof of veteran status for the entire weekend, November 11th through November 14, 2010. Thanks to Military Wives Saving for that tip. I did find mention of it at the TGIF Facebook fan page, but it wasn't a link or a flyer. Be sure to call first!

Famous Dave's locations across the country are offering assorted specials on Veteran's Day - check this list to see what your location might have planned.

Local Deals:

Some Texas Roadhouses across the country will be offering free meals on Thursday, November 11th, 2010. The promotion really varies depending on your location. You can go to the Texas Roadhouse main page, find your local location, and click through to their homepage to see what sorts of deals they offer. I randomly checked about 10 locations, and found only one that was offering the promotion. You can always call your location to see if there is an unpublished special running.

Another promotion that is only happening in some locations is the free Subway 6? sandwich. I have heard reports that it is available in certain Florida locations, but other sites might also be offering this deal.

Some Zaxby's restaurants are offering a free meal, as well. A commenter at The Military Wallet states that this deal will be good at locations in the Raleigh, North Carolina area and is also available to fire, police and EMT personnel.

Live in Iowa? Cedar Falls based chain Barmuda is offering a free entree on Veteran's Day, with proof of service. Barmuda has quite a few restaurants from which to choose.

If you live near a Hy-Vee with a cafe, you can enjoy a free breakfast, including beverage during regular breakfast hours on Veteran's Day 2010. What a lovely way to start the day!

A few quick notes before you go out to enjoy all these treats: always check before you start ordering, please tip on the total value of the whole meal before the discount, say "thank you" and enjoy! You have earned it!

Entertainment

Colonial Williamsburg offers free admission to active duty, guard, reservists, retirees, veterans and their dependents November 11th through November 14th, 2010. This great deal includes free parking, admission to the short film about Williamsburg, and use of the site's shuttle buses. The service member need not be present. Free "Honoring Service to America" passes will be provided to immediate family members of currently deployed troops with appropriate identification. Military veterans who separated before retirement can bring a copy of their DD Form 214.

There is a special parade and ceremony on the 11th. All veterans of service in America's Armed Forces are invited to participate in the parade beginning at the Capitol at 4:30 pm, with groups forming at 4:15 p.m. (Veterans unable to walk the distance can join the parade near the Magazine.) After processing to the Courthouse, there will be a ceremony honoring all veterans of American service.

Knotts Berry Farm offers free admission for past and present military members during its annual Military Tribute, which runs from November 1st to November 25th, 2010. Veterans or current serving military personnel plus one guest get in FREE with proper ID presented at Knott's turnstile. Acceptable forms of ID include DD214, Veterans Administration Hospital ID or Active Military Service ID. Purchase up to six additional tickets for just $15 each.

Also on November 11th, 2010, the National Parks Service is waiving all entrance fees at all national parks.

Non-Entertainment Discounts:

Sleep Number beds are offering a few things this Veteran's Day. First, a free travel pillow just for going into the store between October 31st and November 14th, 2010 and trying out their Sleep Number beds. Then, if you decide to purchase, you can get a $750 discount off of the i8 bed, plus free delivery, and 30% off of other bedding solutions. (Thanks to Greta of Hooah Wife and Friends for forwarding this email to me.)

Bed and Breakfast for Veterans promotion offers a free night's stay in a participating bed and breakfast.

Selected Sport Clips locations are offering free haircuts for active duty and veterans on November 11th, 2010. Please call your local shop to see if they are participating.

Build-a-Bear Workshops are offering a 20% discount for active duty military from November 11th to November 15th, 2010. A similar discount is available online, offering $10 off of $50 or more using coupon code 95309.

Dollar General is offering a 10% discount to active duty, veterans and military families on Veteran's Day.

Cabela's is offering their employee discount to all veterans on November 11th and 12th. As last year, details are sketchy so be sure to confirm before you make a trip. Discount varies from 5% to 50% depending on the item.

Fashion Bug is offering 20% off to military family members with military ID. (Again, can't verify, please call!)

I am exhausted just thinking about all these opportunities. I hope that you all have a chance to enjoy the holiday, and Thank You for your service to our country!
