Effective 13 June 2011, military families will only need to remember one toll-free number to access the American Red Cross' emergency notification services. Rather than keeping track of a local number, service families all over the world can use the 1-877-272-7337 to begin the process of sending an emergency message to a deployed or otherwise separated service member.

This number can be used whenever a situation fits the criteria for an emergency message. This typically includes birth of a child, death or serious illness of an immediate family member, or other serious emergency. Even if the service member learns of the situation through a telephone call or email, the emergency notification service is the first step to receiving emergency leave, command-funded travel, and some relief society assistance.
Gotta love it when things get easier!
