Despite capturing hearts throughout the 12th season of TV's "America's Got Talent," In The Stairwell won't advance to the finals, the a cappella group learned Wednesday night.
The Air Force Academy men sang Ed Sheeran's "Castle on the Hill" -- and received a standing ovation -- during a semifinals live show Tuesday night. Viewers voted for their favorite acts, and the next night, the group learned they wouldn't be advancing to the finals.
"('America's Got Talent') was an incredibly humbling experience. It is such an honor to even have made it this far. Thank you for everything!" In The Stairwell said in a tweet.
Five of the group's 15 members have graduated from the academy since the season began and are now serving in the Air Force, a news release says.
"Just as a group that sings so well together, you really touch me, you make me kind of emotional, because I know how hard you practice," said Mel B, one of the judges, during Tuesday's show. "I know that you can't believe you're actually here, for a start ... but you deserve to be here. You just sound incredible."
The men have been known for their amateurish dancing during performances throughout the season.
"I am so glad you kept the cheesy, awkward choreography," Mel B said, prompting laughs from the other judges. "That is my favorite."
Ten acts will perform in the finals next week on NBC. They are:
- Angelica Hale
- Chase Goehring
- Darci Lynne
- Evie Clair
- Light Balance
- Mandy Harvey
- Preacher Lawson
- Sara Carson and Hero
