The Army is increasing no-notice deployments to Eastern Europe and accelerating efforts to get increased capabilities, service leaders told lawmakers recently. In March, more than 1,500 soldiers from the 1st Armored Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team deployed to Germany with a week’s notice to train on prepositioned equipment in Poland, according to a recent news release, and the Army plans to expand the concept. Meanwhile, the service is moving forward with efforts to add more weapons onto Stryker vehicles. The first Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense systems will be fielded on the vehicles by next fiscal year, and they will eventually have four Stinger missiles on one side and two Hellfire missiles on the other, with a 30 mm autocannon and machine gun in the center, officials said.
