New Optic Gives Location, Shot Count and Much More

Keep in mind it's still very "prototype" and there's a bunch of functionality to add in the near future, its builders say, but the IRISS optic from eMenu is intriguing in its comprehension.

The thing weighs less than a pound and runs off of AA batteries. Sitting atop your M4 or M16, the IRISS delivers current position, direction and speed, shot count and, oh yeah, a customized reticule to put that 5.56 round right on target.

In case that wasn't enough, the whole thing also incorporates a radio transmitter so you can tell your squad leaders where you are and where you're going.

It's a bit clunky in its current form, but as eMenu engineers admit, the version you see next year won't even be close to what you're seeing now.
