ALBANY, N.Y. — The commander of the New York Air National Guard has been chosen by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to lead the state's entire National Guard organization.
Cuomo announced Wednesday that Maj. Gen. Anthony German will be the next adjutant general of New York. In that position he'll oversee all of the state's Air National Guard and Army National Guard units as well as the New York Naval Militia and the New York Guard.
German assumes his new duties in April.
German has been serving as the New York National Guard's second-in-command under the current adjutant general, Maj. Gen. Patrick Murphy, who is leaving to serve with the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C.
German, who lives in Oneonta, is a 33-year veteran of the U.S. military.
