KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Police in Kings Mountain say three members of the North Carolina Army National Guard helped catch a suspect accused of trying to sexually assault a girl on a local street.

Local media outlets report police said the guardsmen happened to be in a nearby motor pool when the girl fought off her attacker and screamed for help.

According to police, the girl was walking on the street Sunday when the attacker came up from behind and tried to assault her.

The guard members and others detained the suspect on until police arrived.

Police arrested 19-year-old Kyle Matthew Moore of Kings Mountain and charged him with second-degree sexual offense and sexual battery. Moore is in the Cleveland County jail under $100,000 bail. Online records don't list an attorney for Moore.
