Navy to Expedite Repair Work on Ships in Hampton Roads

WASHINGTON -- Virginia's senators say the U.S. Navy will expedite repair work on three ships, which could provide some workload stability to the shipyards in Hampton Roads.

Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine, both Democrats, said in a news release Thursday that the Navy will move up by several months repair work on the USS Gettysburg, USS Tortuga and USS Winston Churchill.

The senators hope the move will provide workload stability to the shipyards until the demand for ship repairs increases in 2018.
