KITTERY, Maine -- The Coast Guard cutter Campbell is returning home to Kittery, Maine.

The cutter returns Thursday from a 50-day patrol of the North Atlantic that included search and rescue, fishing enforcement, exercises with the Canadian Navy -- and freeing a turtle entangled in fishing gear.

Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew Travis called it a "wide array of Coast Guard missions."

The Coast Guard says the vessel conducted 52 boardings of vessels. It also honored a former shipmate by conducting a burial at sea for a retired Coast Guard chief quartermaster.
