NEW ORLEANS — About 150 Louisiana National Guard airmen are in Bulgaria for a training mission with that country's air force.
The National Guard says the 159th Fighter Wing from the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans is participating in a training mission with the Bulgarian Air Force at the Graf Ignatievo Air Base in central Bulgaria.
The U.S. Air Force is involved too. The deployment started on April 16 and ends on May 5.
The training involves F-15C/D Eagles, Bulgarian MiG-29 fighters, Su-25 ground-support aircraft and anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Louisiana National Guard officials say that during the mission, pilots will train on air-to-air fighting and on the Balkan country's anti-aircraft missile defense infrastructure.
