SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard says 6 people have been rescued from a sailboat that foundered in rough seas off in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Spokesman Ricardo Castrodad says one of the women suffered a foot injury but the rest were apparently unharmed. Castrodad says the chartered vessel ran aground Monday near Coral Bay off the island of St. John.
Coast Guard helicopters from Puerto Rico airlifted five of the people while teams in the water rescued the sixth. All were U.S. citizens but their names were not released. The sailboat had been chartered in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
