Carter Hall Sailor Dies After Fall Aboard Ship


A sailor died Wednesday night from injuries he suffered when he fell while in the well deck of the amphibious dock landing ship Carter Hall off the coast of North Carolina.

The ship's emergency medical team worked on the sailor, who was flown by Navy helicopter to a hospital in Greenville, N.C., where he was pronounced dead, according to a news release from Expeditionary Strike Group Two.

The sailor's name and age were not released.

The fall happened about 6 p.m., a Navy spokeswoman said. An investigation is under way.

The ship and crew are participating in Bataan Amphibious Ready Group training exercises.
