Time was running out for these WWII vets, and then Breitling fans did something amazing... Breitling supports the non-profit organization Honor Flight Network, whose mission is to send veterans to visit the memorial dedicated to their service in Washington, DC, free of charge. Breitling donated $150,000 to Honor Flight Network, which made it possible for 100 veterans from San Diego to visit Washington, DC. Veterans on the Breitling-sponsored flight were welcomed to the World War II memorial by Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole, who are both long time supporters of Honor Flight Network. From the first day that I got back from Nam, it never let up on how great they were. They kept saying how they were the greatest generation ever. They never brought up that they, on average, only served 44 days a year in combat, as opposed to our 24/7 every day we were over there in Nam. And they are still getting the kudos even today, as we from Nam get the shaft.
