Capt. Jerry Yellin, from Fairfield, Iowa, flew the final combat mission in World War II. He was among the World War II veterans who visited Iwo Jima for the 70th anniversary.

    Thank God that there were men like this in America during these dark days and nights. This man and his mates were what this country was founded upon-a keen spirit of who they were and why they were Americans!     mr. yelin is truly a brave and humble human being. the world war 2 generation will most likely be considered the greatest generation in our history because so many individuals made so many personal sacrifices in order to preserve our democracy. far too many people today take for granted the freedoms that they have been afforded thanks to these brave individuals. thank you mr. yelin.

    Thank you for your service and your comments. If only more citizens of our country could hear your story, maybe more can be done to protect our country in the coming future. We really do need to publish this to the country. How can I be of help I am a veteran of the Korea War period and served in Japan for 4 out of 6 years active duty. 1952-1958. And I also married a Japanese woman, whose father was a medical doctor during WWII and served.with honor for his country. Arthur Lee Shelburne III.
