1st French Convoy Deployed in Mali

As the first armoured convoy of French troops set out for their first major ground combat with Islamist rebels in Mali, France's defence minister has announced that the its campaign against al Qaeda-linked rebels in Mali will be long; raising fears of a protracted conflict which some analysts fear could turn Mali into an African version of Afghanistan.
