Recon Marines Repel Enemy Ambush
This is some of the more "intense" footage from a 3 hour long patrol in Upper Sangin Valley. The video begins just after Alpha Element is engaged in what turns out to be a small preliminary ambush.

Did you notice the poppy plants in some of the segments. I wonder where the final product is going to wind up-USA? trackman/treadhead
Poppies...poppies will make them sleep.
The Recon Marines from my era (Vietnam) would not recognize what these Marines are doing. I realize the missions were different, but wow what a difference. We would not move across an open field, on a path yet. We did not where helmets or flak jackets. Our goal to be stealthy, quite and unobtrusive. On our patrols, no one said a single word aloud. Generally not even a whisper. Our mission was to find the enemy without them finding us. The best time to move was morning and evening nautical twilight, or in the dark. Different war, same brave Marines. Jim Hunter, 3rd Recon 68-69
Jim, I think you have to look at the title of the video, recon marines repel enemy ambush. The very title says that they were ambushed so no need for silence any longer. The enemy found them. No jungle to walk through so they have to cross open fields, that's all that's there. rules changed, we all wear our gear appropriately and that's why so many more Marines are living with their wounds now. You are correct, same brave Marines...
