As a Viet -Nam Marine that had used a 1911 .45 I feel it to be Superior to the M-9 as test have shown the 9x19 will pass thrue the Intended Bad Guy do to the Lite weight and speed it travels at that is why the FBI and others switched to the .45 .Even the Special Operators use the .45 "one shot one kill" What dose the damage is the Transference of Energy to the Body inducing a greater shock to the system S/sgt Joe Ryan [Ret.]

The pistol to replace the M9 should be the H&K .45 compact tactical

The HK45 tactical should be adopted as the replacement. Either that or the HK45CT. Both are fine pistols and easy to shoot well due to much improved recoil management. The 9mm may be easier for female soldiers to fire, but the .45ACP is still a devastating round especially if the military goes to using JHP bullets as is being discussed. JMHO

My main thought is why change? Why should the taxpayers pay more money to change the pistol when there aren't any significant problems with the M9? "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
