I wonder if the guard has orders to fire on anyone who tries to deface the tomb. The military takes that tomb REAL SERIOUS. If his rifle is loaded than why is it loaded?

In the 80s, the public could get much closer to the guards, but they had a chain around the area that was about 10 inches high. During the changing of the guard,I saw a Japanese tourist take two steps over the chain to get a better picture angle. I was moving to yank him back by the collar when one of the guards stopped, slowly turned around and quite firmly told the idiot to get back where he belonged. He got the message, despite the language barrier. I wish I had a video of that.

I am proud of this soldier. He had the boldess to confront the crowd and should receive a Commendation Medal.

Because there are incredibly disrespectful turds out there that think the Tomb is a theme park! Stand at attention, shut up, maintain personal bearing and appropriate respect!

Danthaler, the weapon the guard has no rounds, even the bayonet is for show only and is not sharp, The rifle and bayonet is only use for cermonial only. I do applaud the guard. OUTSTANDING!!!! SOLIDER !!! CARRY ON.

I'll bet this happens quite often, as many of the general public do not share the same RESPECT that the military does - HOORAH to the guard to "request" that respect (He did not ask for silence, he demanded it)- I hope that noisy bunch immediately turned around and left this hallowed place in shame.

Amen! Those soldiers were lost for our freedom, our ability to say and do things no matter what! Even if you don't agree with what they fought for, if you are going to visit a military monument, cemetary, Arlington, and especially the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, show the respect that you would expect at your grave site, your families' grave sites, or even friends. I salute this soldier for standing up and making it clear that he would NOT put up for any disrespect!

I couldn't believe they were doing it, I knew what was coming, he didn't loose his place either, he stopped on 14 steps and picked right back up and took 7 more.

This truly is an honor to watch. I remember being there with my kids and the soldier explaining that silence should be maintained and "no disrespect will be tolerated" during the ceremony. Someone laughed and he just glared at them! Well done soldier!

Yes Sir, there are few things in this country if any that command the respect that the Tomb of the Unknowns does. This young man is to be highly commended and those making the noise slapped up beside their disrespectful heads!!! Bob Rice, MSG RET

For those who think that the GUARD was wrong, OBVIOUSLY never served or served with disrespect. The GUARD should be praised for the demand of respect. There should be Military Police near by to remove those who would not show respect.
