US Marine Awarded Medal of Honor

President Barack Obama awarded Cpl. William "Kyle" Carpenter, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry. Corporal Carpenter received the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as an Automatic Rifleman with Company F, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division (Forward), I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Cpl. Carpenter will be the eighth living recipient to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan. He and his family will join the President at the White House to commemorate his example of selfless service.

    When I enlisted back in '65, I knew that I would have guys like this in the fox holes on either side of me in the Marines.

    I WISH THE PRESIDENT WOULD ADDRESS CPL CARPENTER AS A MARINE INSTEAD OF THIS MAN. BEING RETIRED FROM THE MARINES I KNOW CPL CARPENTER DESERVES TO BE ADDRESSED AS A MARINE.

    President Obama actually did a fine job with this presentation - up to the point of calling CPL Carpenter the "latest Medal of Honor Winner". This ain't a contest or lottery, Mr. President. CPL Carpenter became a WINNER when he put on a the uniform of our military services. He is a MOH RECIPIENT! Hats off to you CPL. CSM (R) James Schiffman.
