My wife's grandfather, William McCabe, was one of the original 29 Code Talkers and was primarily responsible for the code developed for use in World War II. There are two places you can go for great stuff on the Code Talkers. First, none of the original 29 are alive any longer. But there are a few who live and work, yes work, in Old Town Albuquerque, NM. They have a small store there where they sell books, the proceeds of which go for the education of Navajo children. They will go through the books with you and autograph all the places where information appears about them. It's a very neat experience. They will also sit outside under a tent just to meet and greet people. It was very interesting for my wife to meet men who knew her grandfather. The other great place is Monument Valley. That's the place where all the old John Wayne and other westerns were shot with spectacular desert and rock formations. The Navajo have built a beautiful hotel there, which by the way also has a great restaurant. A wing of that hotel is a museum, a good part of which is dedicated to the Code Talkers. Jan got to see pictures of her grandfather, along with his original orders.

continued: The whole Code Talker story is there along with a lot of memorabilia. There was a movie made about the Code Talkers, called Wind Talkers. It starred Nicholas Cage and a bunch of other very familiar names and was a depiction of the darker side of being a Code Talker, and one who watched over them. It is a John Woo movie so there is probably more blood than there needs to be, but the story is good, and fairly accurate.
