You are wrong, I'm sure that Washington and Ike are more recognizable. If you showed 100 people a picture of MacArthur more then half would have no idea who he is.

One piece of MacArthur's history that many people don't know is how he commanded his troops to gun down WWI veterans on the Capital Mall who were protesting not getting a promised bonus. Look up the Bonus March. Many people who were young adults in the 20s spent the rest of their lives hating the very mention of MacArthur.

My mistake, it was called the Bonus Army and it occurred in 1932. The veterans weren't gunned down as I'd read in one account but routed, along with their wives and children by calvary and tanks. One child did die from tear gas inhalation.

The five star Generals in order were: George C. Marshall, Douglas McArthur, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Henry H. Arnold, Omar N. Bradley. General Arnold was in the Army Air Forces and was the first (and only) five star General in the new U.S. Air Force which was created in 1947.
