Don't want to pop any bubbles here, but that is a natural gas fire in a crater at Derweze in Russia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derweze) It's been burning since the early 1970's...
That would explain the absence of any debris. Thanks for the heads up I was wondering about that.
It's been 3 days, and Military.com should have checked on the validity of this anyway. I knew just from the thumbnail that this was the "Hells Gate" crater (or whatever it's called). At least I know that Military.com doesn't really screen postings well. Good to know...
