B-52 Bomber Readiness

Twelve B-52 Bombers from the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base conduct a readiness exercise to test the aircrew's ability to conduct conventional and nuclear bomber operations.

    They did not go very far with that little amount of fuel on board. I was watching them do that almost 55 years ago!

    When I was in SAC we practiced going into enemy countries by flying low level to avoid radar and we simulated wartime conditions -- radar navigation, celestial navigation, and no use of navigation aids because TACANs would be out of service, etc. Now, B-52s do not practice low level flight and rely on GPS. How can they expect to enter a country that has missile defenses when they fly at high altitudes? How can they get to countries when space assets are destroyed or jammed? The B-52 is a great aircraft but today it would be useless fighting a country such as Russia
