Disabled veterans in Minnesota have a few extra weeks to apply for a property tax benefit allowing them full or partial exclusion for their homestead. The deadline has been extended to Sept. 1, 2008. To qualify for the tax exclusion, veterans must have a service-related disability rating of 70 to 100 as defined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The program provides an annual market value exclusion of up to $300,000 on homestead property. For more information and forms, visit the Minnesota Department of Revenue website at www.taxes.state.mn.us.
