The VetDogs program was started last year by the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind in Smithtown, N.Y.. The program provides service dogs for amputees from Iraq and Afghanistan. The dogs help the vets with balance and fetching, and are taught to react in emergencies. They also serve as friends. For more information call 1-866-VETDOGS or visit the VetDogs website. The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind has been providing guide dogs, free of charge, to wounded Soldiers since it was founded in 1946.
