Senate Supports Budget Increase
Week of March 15, 2010
Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI) was joined by a majority of Committee members recently in recommending a $380 million increase in discretionary funding above the President's VA budget proposal. This recommendation came in the Committee's views and estimates letter on the Fiscal Year 2011 budget for veterans' programs that was submitted to the Senate Budget Committee. Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki testified before the Senate recently that this budget will improve the Department's ability to transform VA into a 21st Century organization.
