New Rules for Transferring GI Bill

When the Post-9/11 GI Bill program was initiated in 2009, the post 9-11 GI Bill education transfer program was phased in to enable Airmen nearing retirement to accept a 1, 2, or 3-year graduated service commitment. Now, eligible members must apply to transfer their benefits no later than July 31 to qualify under these graduated service obligations. After July 31, Airmen who apply must fulfill a 4-year service commitment in the selected reserve or active-duty status from the date of their request regardless of how many years of satisfactory service they have. View the video to hear Brig. Gen. Jay Flournoy talk about the Post-9/11 GI Bill transfer phase-in period ending July 31.
