New Grant Programs to Help Aging Veterans

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced $36 million in new grant programs to help keep older Americans, veterans, and those with Alzheimer's disease in their communities and homes. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will receive more than $19 million of those grant programs. HHS' Administration on Aging (AoA) and the Veterans Health Administration will administer the new programs, which are designed to reach people who are not eligible for Medicaid, but who are at high risk of nursing home placement and the spend-down to Medicaid that often occurs when private-pay individuals enter a nursing home.
