The Illinois Department of Transportation recently made an appeal for eligible veterans to join the ranks of its snowplow operators, highway maintenance workers and accident responders. The state is looking for 25 new tow truck drivers who assist stranded motorists and clear accident scenes. Another 50 jobs are available as highway maintainers. The starting salary for each of the positions is about $45,000 with medical benefits and retirement packages. Those who speak Spanish are eligible for an extra $2,000 a year. Interested veterans can download an application from the Illinois Department of Central Management Services website at www.cms.illinois.gov.
