Week of May 19, 2008
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded a grant of $12,675,000 for improvements at the Oklahoma state veterans home in Sulphur. The VA grant, for safety renovations, covers 65 percent of the cost of the project, which includes construction and purchase of equipment. Total cost of the upgrades is $19.5 million. Most residents receive nursing care. Oklahoma has seven veterans centers providing intermediate to skilled nursing care and domiciliary care for wartime veterans and their spouses.
