Tammy Duckworth, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, will be nominated by President Barack Obama to be an assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, a White House official said. Obama intends to nominate Duckworth to be an assistant secretary for public and intergovernmental affairs. Duckworth, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2006, will be yet another Illinois resident expected to move to Washington to join Obama's administration.
