DoD Searches for Test Veterans
Week of October 13, 2008
In September, the DoD Office of Force Health Protection & Readiness announced the launch of the Chemical-Biological Warfare Exposures Website, which presents extensive information on testing conducted during World War II, Project 112/SHAD (Shipboard Hazard and Defense) and the Cold War. DoD has been actively searching the archives at test sites across the country from Maryland to Utah for names of veterans who may have been exposed during these tests. DoD plans to complete its search of the official records in 2011. Several thousand names have already been found. However, the search for names will never end. DoD will continue to explore any new leads or documents from veterans or other sources that will help complete the documentation.
