Bring on the Holiday Spirit
The holidays are supposed to be full of cheer and goodwill toward others, yet sometimes you have a humbug stuck in your bonnet (so to speak). Don't worry if you're not pining to be kissed under the mistletoe or you haven't even begun your Christmas shopping, because it is not too late to find your own way to enjoy the holidays. If that doesn't work at least there is always the celebratory egg nog!
Gift Shopping: You have a week left to get your loved ones gifts, and one of your options is shopping online. You don't have to leave the comfort of your home, though it maybe a tad risky and more expensive since the holidays are just around the corner (having a package delivered overnight will cost you extra). The best solution is writing a concise list and heading -- alone or with a shopping buddy -- to the mall. Once there, you should be able to find everything you need in one stop. If you don't have any idea what to get someone, a gift certificate is the perfect answer. Just make sure to write personal cards to the special people in your life, because what you say from the heart is more important than any bought item. Decorating: Keep it simple. If you don't have time to purchase a real tree, then buy a fake one (big or small depending on what suits your home). On the bright side, if you get a fake tree you can use it again for years. To add a hint of the holidays, hang a Christmas wreath on your front door. You can string a few lights on some bushes outside of your house to avoid troublesome ladders. Keep in mind: less is more. Cooking: Not all of us are Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray in the kitchen, therefore take advantage of all the precooked food available at your local grocery store. If you have a large number of family and friends coming over, prevent stress by having each person bring a side dish or dessert. Then you can concentrate on the main course of your choice The holidays come but once a year and, although they may trigger a migraine, nothing is more important than spending time with the people you love most. Make sure to take a deep breath and take in the smiles and the laughter.
