As you get older, subtle changes in vision, hearing, fitness and concentration can begin to affect your driving skills.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers the following tips that can be helpful to drivers of any age.

  • Try to restrict driving to daylight hours and good weather.
  • Have your vision checked annually.
  • Don't drive while taking prescription drugs that might impair your driving abilities.
  • Plan your routes in advance.
  • Avoid distractions in your car, such as talking on the phone, texting or eating.
  • Always wear your seat belt.
