USS Rentz Assists Mariners in Distress

MANAMA, Bahrain - USS Rentz (FFG 46) responded to a distress call from Motor Vessel Adnan Wahd, which was taking on water while at sea in the Central Arabian Gulf.

M/V Adnan Wahd reported a hole in its hull and that the crew could not bring the flooding under control. The crew also reported having only five hours of fuel remaining and no food.

A Rentz rescue and assist team went aboard M/V Adnan Wahd and provided temporary repairs to a three foot diameter hole in the ship's hull and helped the crew bring the flooding under control.

In coordination with the Qatari Coast Guard, Rentz Sailors transferred a Qatari Coast Guard dewatering pump to M/V Adnan Wahd and trained the crew on how to properly use the pump.

Rentz Sailors also delivered five days of food and water, while remaining on station until M/V Adnan Wahd was safely under tow by a Qatari Coast Guard ship.

"It was a privilege helping a fellow mariner in need, and Rentz always stands ready to assist in an emergency," said Cmdr. Jeff Miller, USS Rentz Commanding Officer.

Rentz is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of Maritime Security Operations.
