BRISTOL, Tenn. - Sailors and prospective Sailors from Navy Recruiting District Nashville celebrated the second victory of the Navy No. 88 "Accelerate Your Life" Chevy Monte Carlo Aug. 22 at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn.
This is the second time this year the Navy No. 88 "Accelerate Your Life" Chevy Monte Carlo and driver Brad Keslowski of JR Motorsports won a nationwide NASCAR race. Both times, members of NRD Nashville were on hand to cheer their driver to victory.
"I am a huge NASCAR fan, and it was really cool to be there to witness the Navy car's second win of the season," said Operations Specialist 2nd Class (SW) Donna Martino. "It was a big thrill to see the Navy car go to victory lane."
Keslowski began the race in 37th position and made it all the way to second place in the pack of 43 cars. Then on lap 227, with 24 laps left in the race, he was able to overtake the first place car and made his way to the front, capturing the checkered flag as he crossed the finish line in first place.
With the win, Keslowski moved himself into second place for the Nationwide championship.
NRD participants in attendance received free tickets to the race through the Fleet Honoree Program. The tickets were available to recruiters, centers of influence and top-performing delayed-entry personnel throughout the district.
"It is awesome that the Navy is able to get us the tickets to the races, but it is sad to think that it is over after this season," said Martino.
