Coast Guard Rescues Man With Leg Injury

MOBILE, Ala. - The Coast Guard rescued a man who injured his leg on board a fishing vessel two miles north of Horn Island.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received the initial call from the captain of the fishing vessel Captain Dennis. He reported that a man on his vessel had injured his leg and was in need of medical attention. 

Sector Mobile launched a 25-foot rescue boat and crew from Station Gulfport, Miss., a 41-foot rescue boat from Station Pascagoula, Miss., and an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew from Air Station New Orleans to assist. 

The injured man was transferred to the 41-foot rescue boat and from there was hoisted to the helicopter for medevac. 

The man was taken to the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport where Emergency Medical Services were standing by.

The condition of the man is unknown.
