CG Responds to Vessel on Taking Water

JUNEAU, Alaska - Coast Guard Air Station Sitka and Station Juneau responded to a report of a 55-foot recreational vessel taking on water this evening in the vicinity of Endicott Arm approximately 50 miles southeast of Juneau.

It was reported to the Coast Guard by the crew of the Raven that they had struck an iceberg at approximately 3:45 p.m., and had begun taking on water.

The rescue helicopter arrived on scene at 5:36 p.m., and the 47-foot motor lifeboat from Station Juneau arrived at 6:15 p.m.

The rescue boat crew transferred one crewman and a dewatering pump to assist the crew of the Raven in plugging the hole.  The rescue crew will escort the Raven to Juneau for further investigation.  The estimated time of arrival in Juneau is between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Several Good Samaritan vessels assisted the Raven in dewatering operations.

The main hole has reportedly been plugged and the dewatering pumps are keeping up with the flooding.

No injuries or pollution have been reported.
