CG Medevacs Man With Severe Pain

KEY WEST, Fla. - Coast Guard crewmembers from Air Station Clearwater, Fla., aboard a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, rescued a 50-year-old Ukrainian man from the motor vessel Munin Explorer 100 miles west of Key West.

Coast Guard search and rescue watchstanders at Sector Key West received notification from crew aboard the Munin Explorer, a 180-foot Cypress flagged research ship, Vadym Karavayev was suffering from severe abdominal pain and needed immediate medical attention.

Coast Guard immediately responded by launching the MH-60 Jayhawk from Air Station Clearwater in order to medevac Karavayev.

The aircrew arrived on scene with the Munin Explorer and hoisted Karavayev into the helicopter. The aircrew transported him to Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, where he was listed in stable condition.
