Every eight weeks a group of Screaming Eagle veterans, coupled with active duty members, pick up and learn to play the acoustic guitar through the Sounds of Acoustic Recovery, SOAR. In 2011 SOAR took off offering eight-week classes. "Guitar is what we teach, but our main goal is to get guys out of the house, get together, and have a sense of purpose," says founder Mike Byer. Classes have been at Fort Campbell, TN and are now branching out to Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Stewart, GA. Soon there will be one in Fort Huachuca, AZ. Starting next month, classes will be offered with the Nashville Musicians Association. If you are a veteran or on active duty and want to participate in SOAR, more information can be found on their Facebook page, Sounds of Acoustic Recovery (SOAR).
