Tips for Safer Online Shopping

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command's Computer Crime Investigative Unit (CCIU) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) offer the following tips to stay safe while shopping online: (1) check out the seller; (2) read the return policies; (3) if name-brand items are sold at an extremely low price, they could be counterfeit or stolen; (4) do not fall for a false e-mail or pop-up or click on any links within them; (5) look for signs that the website uses a secure connection when you buy products; (6) secure your home computer with anti-virus and anti-spyware software and a firewall; (7) pay by credit card; (8) print and save records of your online transactions.
