Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter recently reminded Sailors that they can improve their chances in the Navy's promotion and selection board process by ensuring their Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) is up to date and accurate. Sailors going before a board should review their OMPF at least six months prior the start of a board. This allows Sailors to take corrective action and submit a package to the selection board containing any items missing from the OMPF that they would like the board to consider. All messages to the board must be received by the enlisted selection board's convening date. Active-duty Sailors and drilling Reservists may request copies of their OMPF through BUPERS Online (BOL).
